The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old housewife and her 30-year-old accomplice for allegedly staging her own kidnapping and extorting ₦2.5 million from her husband.

According to the police, investigations revealed that the woman deliberately conspired with her accomplice to fake an abduction in order to demand ransom from her unsuspecting husband. The suspects reportedly contacted the victim’s husband, claiming she had been kidnapped and threatened harm if the ransom was not paid.
Police sources disclosed that the husband eventually paid ₦2.5 million before inconsistencies in the kidnappers’ claims raised suspicion, prompting him to alert the authorities. A swift investigation by operatives of the Lagos State Police Command led to the arrest of the suspects, who later confessed to orchestrating the staged kidnapping.
The Command stated that the suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations, warning that staging fake kidnappings is a serious criminal offence punishable under the law.
The Lagos Police also used the incident to caution members of the public against engaging in fraudulent schemes, stressing that such acts divert security resources and undermine efforts to combat real cases of kidnapping and insecurity in the state.
