The city of Jos is buzzing with excitement today as Governor Caleb Mutfwang formally announces his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The historic event is taking place at the Polo Ground, right in the heart of the city, drawing top political figures and supporters.
Vice President Kashim Shettima will lead the APC delegation at the ceremony, joined by National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, former Plateau Governor Simon Lalong, and members of the Progressive Governors’ Forum led by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma.
During the event, Governor Mutfwang, along with his deputy, Josephine Piyo, will be officially presented with the APC flag. Several other political figures, including House of Assembly members, commissioners, advisers, local government chairpersons, and former PDP leaders, are also expected to formally join the ruling party.
As the new APC state leader, Governor Mutfwang is now positioned to spearhead mobilization efforts, particularly during the ongoing nationwide e‑membership registration campaign.
Speaking to reporters, Dr. Gyang Bere, Director of Media and Public Affairs to the governor, highlighted the significance of the move. He said residents are optimistic about the defection, pointing to its potential to boost development in Plateau State.
“The defection is set to foster unity in the North‑Central region and create partnerships that can address long-standing challenges in infrastructure and security,” Bere explained.
He further noted that the move is expected to strengthen Plateau’s ties with the Federal Government and renew public confidence in the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda. “The benefits of increased federal support and internal cohesion are immense,” Bere added.
