PDP, Labour Party Missing as INEC Releases Final Candidates List for 2026 Osun Governorship Election

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP) have been left out of the final list of candidates approved by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the upcoming 2026 Osun State governorship election.

INEC to Hold Nationwide Mock Presidential Election Ahead of 2027 Polls

In a statement released by the electoral body’s Public Relations Officer in Osun State, Musa Olurode, INEC confirmed that several political parties successfully cleared the screening process and will participate in the poll.

The parties whose candidates were approved include:

Accord (A)
Action Alliance (AA)
African Action Congress (AAC)
African Democratic Congress (ADC)
Action Democratic Party (ADP)
All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA)
All Progressives Congress (APC)
Allied Peoples Movement (APM)
Action Peoples Party (APP)
Boot Party (BP)
New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP)
Peoples Redemption Party (PRP)
Young Progressive Party (YPP), and
Zenith Labour Party (ZLP)

Notably absent from the list are the PDP and LP, two parties that have played visible roles in recent electoral contests in the state.

The electoral commission stated that the list represents parties whose candidates met the necessary requirements for the governorship race.

According to INEC, the Osun State governorship election is scheduled to hold on August 8, 2026.
