PDP Chairman Calls for International Intervention

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a public statement calling for international intervention to protect Nigeria’s democracy, citing what he described as escalating threats to democratic institutions and political freedoms in the country.

In the press release, the chairman expressed deep concern over recent political developments, alleging that the democratic space is shrinking and that key opposition figures and institutions are facing undue pressure. He urged global bodies, including the African Union, ECOWAS, the United Nations, and international democratic watchdogs, to closely monitor Nigeria’s political climate and support efforts aimed at preserving democratic norms.

According to him, Nigeria’s democracy “stands at a critical point,” and external oversight may be necessary to ensure transparency, rule of law, and credible political processes ahead of upcoming national activities.

The statement has sparked nationwide reactions, with supporters praising the call for accountability while critics argue that such appeals may further heighten political tensions.
