A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Peter Obi, has criticised the Federal Government’s spending choices, raising concerns about what he described as misplaced priorities, particularly in the health sector.

Speaking during a meeting with Hausa/Fulani community leaders in Abuja on Wednesday, the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party contrasted alleged government expenditure on aviation with budgetary allocations to public healthcare.
He claimed that while a significant sum was used to purchase and refurbish a presidential aircraft, only a fraction of that amount was earmarked as capital funding for the Ministry of Health.
Obi argued that such spending patterns reflect a broader governance challenge, insisting that basic services such as healthcare, education, and security should take precedence.
According to him, a responsible administration must channel resources toward improving the welfare of citizens rather than luxury acquisitions.
Describing the country’s condition as troubling, Obi pointed to widespread insecurity, economic hardship, and rising hunger as indicators that urgent reforms are needed.
He maintained that many Nigerians wake up daily to discouraging headlines, adding that the nation requires leadership focused on restoring hope and stability.
The former Anambra State governor called on citizens to prioritise the nation’s long-term future at the ballot box, urging them to support leadership that would strengthen public institutions, ensure functional hospitals, and guarantee quality education for children.
Obi further stressed that governance should be measured by its impact on ordinary people, warning that without a shift in priorities, critical sectors would continue to struggle.
