Presidency Not For Youths: Osinbajo

The cost of the presidential forms of the two major political parties in the country is more than enough reason to discourage Nigerian youths, described by the government as people who are lazy, seeking to reap where they did not sow.

The cost of 2019 presidential form of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is fixed at N12million while that of the APC was pegged at N45million.

On this note, Nigerian Youths have been urged not to worry themselves about becoming president of the country now.

Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, gave the advise on Saturday while answering questions at the 9th Sigma Club Public Lecture held on Saturday at the International Conference Centre of the University of Ibadan.

Delivering his lecture titled “Developing the nation through youth empowerment,” the professor of law urged the youths of the country to start from the grassroots, move on to the local government level, then to the state level.

Osinbajo, when asked the rationale behind the exorbitant price of the nomination form of the All Progressive Congress (APC), said the chances of Nigerian youths producing a president now was feasible because the time is yet to come.

“As for the federal level, “don’t worry yourself about running for president; it will take a while,” the International Center for Investigative Reporting (ICIR) quoted the vice president as saying.

He also said anyone who wants venture into politics should also go into public service.

“Anybody who wants a career in political positions should also make an attempt to get involved in public service since there are less than 2000 of such positions.

Get involved in public service,” he added, calling on the youths to always hold the government accountable if their future as leaders of tomorrow would be guaranteed.

His principal, President Muhammadu Buhari, who seeks a second term in office, had his expression of interest and nomination forms of the party paid for by his supporters.
