No More Cash Payments: FAAN Announces Nationwide Ban

Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has set February 29, 2026, as the deadline for ending all cash transactions across its operations nationwide.

No More Cash Payments: FAAN Announces Nationwide Ban

The decision forms part of a broader transition to a fully cashless system in compliance with Federal Government policy aimed at strengthening transparency and accountability in public sector finances.

FAAN’s Managing Director, Olubunmi Kuku, conveyed the directive in an internal memo circulated to all departments within the agency. The move aligns with the resolution of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), which recently approved the gradual elimination of cash dealings in government institutions.

Under the new policy, every financial transaction conducted by FAAN — including payments, collections, and other business activities — must be processed strictly through officially approved electronic platforms.

Departmental heads have been mandated to ensure immediate implementation of the directive and to facilitate a seamless transition to alternative digital payment channels before the deadline.

The memo emphasized that any staff member found engaging in cash handling after February 29, 2026, will face severe disciplinary measures.

FAAN reiterated that the shift is compulsory and warned that non-compliance will attract stiff penalties as the agency moves to fully align with Nigeria’s cashless economy framework.
