The Sultan of Sokoto and Chairman of the Northern Traditional Rulers Council, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, has dismissed claims of genocide against Christians in northern Nigeria, describing the allegations as false, misleading, and capable of dividing the nation.

Speaking at a recent event, the revered monarch said the narrative of religious persecution in the North has been sensationalized by certain groups, warning that such claims only fuel mistrust and tension among Nigerians.
“There is no genocide against Christians in northern Nigeria. These are false and divisive claims that do not represent the true situation of our communities,” the Sultan stated firmly.
He emphasized that northern traditional and religious leaders have continued to work toward peaceful coexistence among Muslims and Christians, urging Nigerians to focus on unity and development rather than hate-filled narratives.
The Sultan’s statement comes amid heightened international attention and online debates over alleged religious persecution in parts of Nigeria.
Analysts believe his remarks could help douse religious tension and redirect focus toward national reconciliation and peacebuilding
