Uchechi Kanu, wife of IPOB leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has spoken out following the Federal High Court ruling that sentenced her husband to life imprisonment on terrorism-related charges.

In an emotional message released shortly after the judgment, Uchechi described the sentence as “a heartbreaking injustice” and insisted that her husband’s conviction was politically motivated. She called on the international community, human rights organisations, and well-meaning Nigerians to speak up and demand fairness.
According to her, the ruling does not only target her husband but represents “a direct attack on the Igbo people, democracy, and freedom of expression.” She reaffirmed her belief in her husband’s innocence, adding that his decades-long activism was rooted in the pursuit of equity and justice.
Uchechi urged supporters to remain calm, peaceful, and united as they explore all legal and diplomatic avenues to challenge the judgment.
Her reaction has sparked widespread conversation across social media, with many expressing worry about rising political tension in the Southeast following the court’s decision.
