The lawmaker representing Delta North Senatorial District, Senator Ned Nwoko, has called for the immediate release of the detained Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu, stating that such a move would restore lasting peace and stability to the Southeast region.

Speaking during a media briefing on Friday, Nwoko emphasized that continued detention of Kanu has only deepened resentment and fueled unrest among the youth in the region.
“It’s time for the Federal Government to consider dialogue and reconciliation. The release of Nnamdi Kanu will go a long way in calming tensions and promoting national unity,” he said.
The senator further noted that peaceful engagement, not confrontation, remains the best approach to addressing the grievances and agitations in the Southeast.
“We cannot achieve progress through division or violence. I believe his release will open the door for meaningful discussions toward national healing,” he added.
Nwoko’s remarks come amid renewed calls from political leaders, religious figures, and civil society groups urging the government to adopt a political solution to the long-standing issue.
The Federal Government, however, has yet to issue an official response to the growing pressure over Kanu’s continued detention.
