Nigeria’s Power Supply Plunges Below 4,000MW as Dangote Refinery Dispute Enters Day Two

Nigeria’s fragile power grid suffered yet another blow this morning as electricity generation dropped below the 4,000-megawatt mark, a sharp decline linked to the ongoing strike by oil and gas workers.

The industrial action, now in its second day, was triggered by a heated dispute between the workers’ union and the Dangote Petroleum Refinery. The standoff has disrupted fuel and gas supply chains, compounding the pressure on an already struggling energy sector.

Energy analysts warn that if the strike drags on, the consequences could be devastating — from widespread blackouts to increased economic strain on households and businesses. For millions of Nigerians who already endure erratic electricity, the situation could soon spiral into a nationwide energy crisis.

As negotiations between the government, the unions, and the Dangote Group stall, the big question looms: will this deadlock plunge Nigeria into a full-blown blackout?
