Nigeria’s Defence Minister Mohammed Badaru Abubakar Resigns

Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has resigned his appointment with immediate effect, according to an official letter dated December 1 and addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In the resignation letter, Abubakar stated that he was stepping down due to health-related reasons, noting that the demands of the office required full strength and constant availability — responsibilities he could no longer fully discharge.

The sudden resignation marks a significant shift within the nation’s security leadership at a time when Nigeria continues to battle widespread insecurity. The Presidency is expected to announce a replacement soon.

This development has stirred reactions across political and security circles, with many praising Badaru for choosing transparency and prioritizing his health.
