Nigeria Is Rich But Has Become Capital of Poverty

Peter Obi, has stated that Nigeria is not a poor country and Africa is not a poor continent, insisting that the nation’s current poverty crisis is the result of leadership failure rather than lack of resources.

Obi described Nigeria as richly endowed but tragically transformed into the “capital of poverty,” despite its vast natural and human resources.

He also said the Niger Delta region deserves a formal apology for decades of wasted resources, environmental degradation, and lost opportunities, noting that mismanagement and corruption have denied the area and the country the benefits of its oil wealth. According to Obi, meaningful development will only be possible when accountability, prudent governance, and responsible leadership replace waste and misrule.
