The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced the successful collection of more than N600 billion in Value Added Tax (VAT) from international digital service providers, including Facebook, Amazon, and Netflix.
The development follows the country’s recent tax reforms requiring foreign digital platforms offering services in Nigeria to register and remit VAT. Authorities say the move is part of efforts to boost government revenue and ensure fair taxation across both local and global businesses.
Tax experts note that the collections mark a significant milestone in Nigeria’s drive to expand its tax net in the digital economy, which continues to grow rapidly as more Nigerians consume online services.
