The Federal Airport Authorty of Nigeria FAAN has emphasised the need to end plastic Pollution in the country and most especially around its airports Nation wide.
In many developing countries, Plastic pollution is one of the biggest environmental concerns which has constituted a global problem with its use which has become a serious challenge with
Its improper disposal , which causes canals and water channels blockage, and also its production involves emission of obnoxious gases, which poses serious health problems to the workers and the neighborhood.
Many of these plastics also end up in rivers and oceans and thus endangering aquatic life.
Celebrating this years environmental day with the theme
“Beat Plastic Pollution,” the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) in collaboration with Nigeria Environmental Society emphasizes the need for a safe and healthy airport environment as it celebrates the 2018 day.
In a lecture organised by both agencies, aim was to encourage a global action to protect the environment.
The Managing Director/Chief Executive of FAAN, Engr. Saleh Dunoma, who was represented by the Director of Engineering Services, Engr. Salisu Daura, in his welcome address, reiterated the importance of integrating human interactions in its development plans in order to ensure a safe and healthy environment.
He joined the global environment body to point our attention to the challenges of plastic pollution coming from all facets of human activities.
FAAN’s boss pledged that the Authority would do everything possible to ensure that all plastic materials and other wastes generated around the nation’s airports are properly disposed to prevent the hazards associated with plastics Pollution .
The agency assures the general public of a clean and safe airport environment as it is committed to its core values of Safety, Security and Comfort.
