The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has threatened to initiate committal proceedings against the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, over the planned resumption of the suspended motor vehicle tinted glass permit policy.

The association expressed strong opposition to the decision, which is scheduled to take effect on January 2, 2026, describing it as unlawful and contrary to existing court rulings. According to the NBA, any attempt to enforce the policy without full compliance with legal requirements and judicial pronouncements would amount to contempt of court.
The NBA warned that it would not hesitate to approach the courts to seek committal orders against the police leadership if the policy is implemented as announced. The body also raised concerns about the potential for abuse, harassment of motorists, and extortion by law enforcement officers if the tinted glass permit enforcement resumes.
The planned resumption has generated widespread reactions, with many Nigerians urging authorities to prioritize security reforms and public trust rather than policies perceived as burdensome to citizens. As of the time of filing this report, the Nigeria Police Force has yet to issue an official response to the NBA’s threat.
