Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, reportedly experienced a nosebleed during his detention by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

El-Rufai had honoured an invitation from the EFCC and presented himself at the commission’s headquarters on February 16. Two days later, on February 18, he was transferred to the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) after being released by the EFCC.
Both anti-corruption agencies are investigating allegations of financial misconduct linked to El-Rufai’s time as governor of Kaduna State between 2015 and 2023.
In a statement released Monday night, his media aide, Muyiwa Adekeye, raised concerns about the conditions of the former governor’s detention. According to the statement, El-Rufai’s wife was not permitted to hand over his meal to him personally on February 17. Instead, she was instructed to pass the food through an official of the commission.
Adekeye also disclosed that members of El-Rufai’s legal team have yet to be presented with any remand order authorising his detention beyond the constitutionally stipulated 48-hour period without formal charges.
He further noted that both family members and lawyers have encountered challenges in gaining access to the former governor while he remains in custody.
