NAFDAC Raises Alarm Over Rising Smuggling

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a strong warning over the increasing smuggling, sale, and distribution of unsafe and unapproved food products now circulating in markets nationwide.

According to the agency, the influx of these unregulated and potentially harmful food items poses a serious threat to public health, as many of the products enter the country illegally without undergoing safety checks, quality assessment, or proper storage evaluations.

NAFDAC urged consumers to remain vigilant, avoid buying suspiciously cheap or unlabelled food items, and report any questionable products to the nearest office of the agency.

The regulator also vowed to intensify nationwide surveillance and clamp down on the criminal networks involved in the trade.

The warning comes amid rising concerns about food safety, counterfeit goods, and the health risks associated with consuming unregulated products in Nigerian markets.
