The husband of popular Nollywood actress, Mercy Aigbe, has been remanded in Kirikiri Prisons in Lagos, following domestic violence on the wife.
Lanre Gentry, 52-year-old hotelier, who finally appeared in court on Tuesday after failing to show up twice, is being remanded in prison until he meets the bail demands of N500,000 and two sureties who reside in Lagos and have landed properties.
He was granted bail on Tuesday after he was arraigned at an Ikeja magistrate court on three-count charge of domestic violence, assault and threat to life.
The case has been adjourned to July 12.
Mr. Gentry was initially asked to appear in court following a physical assault charge levelled against him by the Lagos State Department of Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team.
He however failed to show up in court saying he was admitted in a Lagos hospital for an undisclosed ailment.
His estranged wife then took to her Instagram account to raise an alarm that her husband was trying to evade arrest with the help of the police.
The pair is currently involved in a domestic violence case, which the police are still investigating.
A fight between the couple allegedly led to her bleeding, a situation which informed her decision to storm the office of the Lagos State Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Commissioner, Lola Akande, last week Tuesday, to report the matter.
Mrs. Akande was said to have handed over the case to the state Ministry of Justice. Despite the explanations given by Mr. Gentry that the pictures of the actress’ bruised face were behind-the-scene images from a movie set, the actress has secured a restraining order against him.
Mr. Gentry has been ordered by a court not to come within one mile of Mercy Aigbe’s location at all times.
The couple was married for seven years and the union produced a son. While it is Mercy’s second marriage, it is her husband’s third marriage.
