Mascot Kalu Declares 2027 Governorship Bid, Pledges Equity and Transparency in Governance

Former Chief of Staff to the Abia State Government and younger brother to former Governor Orji Uzor Kalu, Mascot Uzor Kalu, has officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 Abia governorship election.

Speaking during a press conference in Umuahia on Friday, Mascot Kalu said his decision was driven by the desire to restore equity, accountability, and transparency in the governance of Abia State.

“Abia deserves a new beginning — one rooted in fairness, inclusion, and effective leadership,” he said. “My administration will prioritize infrastructural development, youth empowerment, and public sector reforms that ensure government truly serves the people.”

Kalu, who previously contested the 2023 governorship election under the Action People’s Party (APP), noted that his political movement is focused on uniting all zones of the state and fostering collaboration rather than division.

He assured supporters that his campaign would be anchored on good governance, transparency, and result-driven policies that uplift communities across Abia.

“The time has come for Abia to rise above political distractions. We will run a people-centered government where accountability is not an option but a culture,” he added.

Political observers say his declaration adds renewed energy to the race, as Abia prepares for what promises to be a highly competitive 2027 election season.
