His move comes just days after he announced his resignation from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), a decision that also saw several party executives in Aba step down alongside him.

Bringing clarity to mounting speculation, Ikwechegh confirmed on Tuesday that he has officially pitched his tent with the Labour Party.

A Visit To Otti

Shortly after making his defection public, the federal lawmaker paid a visit to Abia State Governor, Alex Otti.

The meeting, which took place behind closed doors, has fueled further political conversations within the state, although no details of their discussion were disclosed.

Meanwhile, the Abia chapter of APGA has reacted to the development.

The party’s state chairman, Sunday Onukwubiri, stated that the Umuahia-based leadership was not formally notified of Ikwechegh’s resignation.

Despite the defection, he emphasised that the party remains stable, united, and committed to its objectives regardless of individual departures.

Ikwechegh At A Glance

Ikwechegh’s political career has previously drawn national attention.

In late 2024, a video circulated widely on social media allegedly showing the lawmaker involved in a physical altercation with a ride-hailing driver in Abuja.

In the footage, he was seen striking the driver and reportedly making a threatening remark.
