Maryam Sanda was arraigned on Friday for offenses bordering on culpable homicide, for allegedly stabbing her husband, Bilyaminu Bello, son of ex-PDP chairman, Haliru Bello, to death at their home in Abuja last Sunday.
The suspect, who is the daughter of Aso Savings boss, Hajia Maimuna Aliyu, could not control her emotion upon arrival at the court, holding her six-month-old baby and a Quran.
The accused person covered her face with a scarf to prevent being photographed by the media.
Before the commencement of the court hearing, she was seen reading from the Quran she was holding.
She pleaded “not guilty” to the two count charges of homicide read to her.
Maryam’s lawyer, Hussein Musa had asked the court to let the defendant be in police custody, arguing that she is still a nursing mother and would be improper to be remanded in prison custody.
However, presiding judge, Yusuf Halilu Maryam, objected to the counsel’s suggestion and ruled that she be kept in Suleja prison.
The suspected killer of her husband was
the only one in her executive ‘cell’ which is like a comfort of her home.
