One Ifeanyi Ibeawuchi from Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State has gone into hiding after he allegedly murdered his 22-year-old cousin, Ifeanyi Ogu, over a missing laptop.
The killing of the 22-year -old made youths of the community to take laws into their own hands by setting ablaze the suspect’s family house.
The fire, however, spread to other buildings around and efforts of a combined detachment of police operatives from the state police command and the Mbieri division prevented the fire from causing more havoc.
The elder brother of the deceased, Uchechukwu Ogu, said that Ibeawuchi had on Sunday accused his younger brother of knowing something about his missing laptop.
He said the victim denied the allegation, but the suspect, who is on the run, took him away in company with three other young men who claimed to be policemen.
The elder brother said the next news he heard after three days was that Ifeanyi had been murdered.
He added that after a search, he found his brother’s corpse at Umuguma General Hospital mortuary.
Uchechuku said “It never occurred to me that the men he came with were not policemen. It was when he refused to pick my calls that I visited the police station. But I was told that my younger brother was never brought to the police station.
“When we found my younger brother’s corpse at Umuguma General Hospital morgue, we were told that Ibeawuchi brought his corpse .”
The father of the deceased, Nathel Ogu, said that justice must be allowed to take its course.
The parents of the suspect had also gone into hiding.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Andrew Enwerem, said normalcy had been restored to the area and investigation into matter has began,” he added.
