According to authorities, the blasts occurred on Monday evening at about 7:24 p.m. and were carried out in a coordinated manner across multiple high-traffic locations in the city.

Police say the attacks bore the hallmarks of suicide bombings, with improvised explosive devices (IEDs) used to target densely populated and strategic areas.

The affected sites included the popular Monday Market, the entrance gate of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, and the Post Office Flyover—locations typically busy with civilians.

Officials believe the attackers deliberately chose these spots to maximize casualties, instill fear, and disrupt daily life and economic activities in the region.

In the aftermath, security forces—including police tactical units and military personnel—swiftly moved in to secure the affected areas.

Bomb disposal experts from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit conducted thorough sweeps to rule out the presence of additional devices.

The Commissioner of Police in Borno State, Naziru Abdulmajid, visited the scenes shortly after the incident.

He expressed condolences to the victims and their families, while assuring residents that security agencies are taking decisive steps to prevent further attacks.

He also confirmed that heightened security measures have been implemented across the state.

The Evacuation

Emergency responders, including the National Emergency Management Agency and the Borno State Emergency Management Agency, worked alongside medical teams to evacuate the wounded.

Victims were taken to hospitals within Maiduguri, where they are currently receiving treatment.

Despite the scale of the incident, authorities say efforts are ongoing to stabilise the situation.

Security presence has been reinforced across Maiduguri and nearby communities, with residents urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
