The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has once again extended the deadline for filing individual annual income tax returns, shifting it from April 14 to April 21, 2026.

In a statement released on Saturday, the agency expressed appreciation to taxpayers for their ongoing compliance and dedication to meeting their civic responsibilities.
The announcement was signed by Monsurat Amasa-Oyelude, Head of Corporate Communications at LIRS.
According to the agency, the decision to push the deadline further was prompted by a surge in activity on its eTax platform, as many taxpayers rushed to meet the earlier cutoff date.
The heavy traffic, it noted, made it necessary to allow additional time for users to successfully complete their submissions.
LIRS explained that the extension is intended to ensure that all eligible taxpayers have a fair opportunity to file their returns without technical hindrances.
The agency, however, described April 21 as the final deadline and urged individuals yet to file to take full advantage of the extension.
It reiterated that submitting annual income tax returns is a mandatory legal requirement.
LIRS Executive Chairman, Dr. Ayodele Subair, also emphasized that all filings must be completed online via the official eTax portal, which remains the sole approved platform for submissions.
