Adewunmi Falode, a Professor of International Relations and Strategic Studies at Lagos State University (LASU), has called for a constitutional review that would introduce a single, non-renewable seven-year term for all elected public office holders in Nigeria.

Falode argued that the current system encourages unhealthy political competition, prolonged campaign cycles, and governance disruptions. According to him, a single 7-year tenure would reduce political tension, curb desperation for re-election, and allow leaders to focus more on delivering long-term development goals.
He emphasized that such a reform could also strengthen political stability and enhance accountability across all levels of government.
