Lagos State has welcomed the first baby of the year 2019, born at exactly 12:00 am on January 1 to the family of Mr and Mrs Adegbesan at Lagos Island Maternity Hospital.
While congratulating the parents, wife of the state governor, Mrs Bolanle Ambode, also called on pregnant women in the state to always patronize government health facilities for safe delivery.
She made the appeal at the annual celebration of the first baby of the year in the State held separately at Shomolu General Hospital, Maternal and Child Care Centre (MCC), Gbaja, and Lagos Island Maternity Hospital.
Mrs Ambode stressed that it was important for mothers to give quality attention and priority to the well-being of their children in the overall interest of society.
Also in Kwara State, the wife of the governor, Mrs Omolewa Ahmed, welcomed the first baby of the year in the state.
The baby was delivered at about 10 minutes past midnight at the Ilorin General Hospital to Mr and Mrs Mujeen Abioye.
