The Management of Fortuneland school, sure deserves an accolade for putting in place all necessary measures to prevent an outbreak of deadly coronavirus, with children particularly prone to infection.
A visit to the school in Akute, Ogun State on Monday 2nd of March 2020, was commending, with the facilities on ground, put in place by the management.
From the school gate, it was observed that, no child, parents or even the teachers and cleaners were allowed in without a mandatory temperature check, carried out by a trained medical personnel, Mrs Oluwafumilayo Adelawal

The principal of the school, Mr Akin Ademodi in a chat with maymaygist.com stressed the importance of putting all necessary measure in place, to prevent an outbreak of coronavirus or any other disease.

According to him, children are transmission engines for respiratory viruses, given their close contact with one another.
He further disclosed that the children’s wellbeing is more Paramount, to the school as no parents will be happy paying school fees for a child on hospital admission.
However, unlike Fortuneland school, other schools visited within the area, seems not prepared.
It was discovered that they teachers in other schools, were more interested in preventing the children entrance into the schools due to non payment of school fees.

The principal of one of the schools who simply identified himself as Mr Lekan said the management of his school is planing to put necessary preventive measures in place, but refused to disclose how soon.
An administrator of another popular school in the area Mrs Olufumilayo Akoni said that every school has its mission and objectives and every school should go with their pace, in curtailing an outbreak.
She explained that the issue of Coronavirus should be more on awareness and not checking a child’s temperature or the regular hand wash.
This obviously reveal that not many school administrators are aware of the coronavirus and the necessary measures that should be put in place.
The novel coronavirus that causes the disease COVID-19 was first identified in Wuhan, China, on Dec. 31, 2019.
Since then, it has spread to 75 other countries around the world including Nigeria, with more than 3,000 deaths, and 90,000 cases confirmed worldwide by the WHO.
The symptoms to look out for, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), are fever, coughing and shortness of breath. These symptoms usually appear between two days and two weeks of exposure to the virus.
