The Kogi State Government has distributed veterinary equipment and motorcycles to extension officers across the state as part of efforts to enhance livestock production and animal healthcare delivery.

Speaking at the distribution ceremony in Lokoja, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Timothy Ojomah, said the initiative is designed to strengthen veterinary services and improve the productivity of livestock farmers in rural communities.
“Livestock production remains a critical part of Kogi’s agricultural development strategy. By providing our officers with the necessary tools and mobility, we are ensuring timely veterinary interventions and improved animal health across the state,” he said.
The commissioner noted that the gesture aligns with Governor Usman Ododo’s agricultural transformation agenda, which seeks to make Kogi a leading hub for meat, dairy, and poultry production in Nigeria.
He added that the motorcycles will enable veterinary officers to reach remote areas quickly, while the modern diagnostic tools will help detect and manage animal diseases more effectively.
Representatives of livestock farmers and veterinary officers commended the government’s support, describing it as a timely intervention that will boost productivity, curb losses, and promote food security.
“This is a practical step toward achieving sustainable livestock development,” one of the beneficiaries stated.
