The Presidency has announced the resignation of Kayode Egbetokun as Inspector-General of Police.

According to the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the former police chief formally submitted his resignation letter on Monday.
He reportedly cited personal and family concerns as the reason for stepping down, noting that the issues require his full attention.
Egbetokun Meets Tinubu
The development reportedly came shortly after a closed-door meeting between Egbetokun and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Sources familiar with the meeting indicated that the police boss was advised to relinquish his position.
Egbetokun, who was appointed Inspector-General on June 19, 2023, previously served as Deputy Inspector-General in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department before ascending to the top role.
He succeeded Usman Alkali Baba, whose tenure concluded in September 2023 after an extension granted by former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The Coming Days
Meanwhile, indications have emerged that a major overhaul may be underway within the Nigeria Police Force.
Reports suggest that no fewer than 29 senior officers — including several Deputy Inspectors-General and Assistant Inspectors-General — could be affected by an impending leadership shake-up.
Sources within the police hierarchy and the Police Service Commission reportedly described the move as part of a broader restructuring aimed at repositioning the force’s leadership structure.
