The development was made public in a statement released on Monday by Adamu Abdullahi, Director of Public Enlightenment at the Ministry of Housing Development, and circulated to journalists in Kano.

According to the statement, the proposed toll points are designed to strengthen surveillance at critical entry routes into the city.

It will enable authorities to better monitor vehicular traffic and bolster the state’s security framework.

Scope Of The Project

Key highways earmarked for the project include:

Katsina Road,

Gwarzo Road,

Zaria Road,

Maiduguri Road,

Kano-Daura Road, and

Hadejia Road

These are all vital arteries connecting the commercial hub to neighbouring states.

The government said the selection of these corridors was based on their importance as primary access routes into the metropolis.

Commissioner for Housing Development, Arc. Ibrahim Yakubu Adamu, has formally transferred the seven designated project sites to contractors, signalling the start of construction work.

He explained that the decision to install toll gates across major entry points aligns with the administration’s broader agenda.

That agenda aims to strengthen security and improving socio-economic coordination within the state.

Regulated Checkpoints

The commissioner noted that the facilities would function as regulated checkpoints to track and manage the flow of vehicles entering the city, adding that structured monitoring is crucial to safeguarding lives and property.

He also charged the contractors to strictly comply with approved engineering standards and deliver the project within the agreed timeline, stressing that timely and quality execution is key to achieving the state’s security and development goals.

The handover ceremony was attended by the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Marwan Ahmed, and the Commissioner for Public Procurement, Dr. Nura Ma’aji, alongside other senior government officials.
