IPOB Ends Monday Sit-at-Home in South-East as Kanu Issues Fresh Directive

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has announced the immediate termination of its long-standing Monday sit-at-home directive across the South-East, following a new order from its detained leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

IPOB Ends Monday Sit-at-Home in South-East as Kanu Issues Fresh Directive

The decision, conveyed in a statement released on Sunday by IPOB’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful, takes effect from Monday, February 9, 2026.

Residents of the region have been urged to return fully to normal life, with markets, schools, offices, and transport services resuming operations without fear.

Powerful stated that the suspension marks the definitive end of the weekly shutdown, stressing that any individual or group attempting to enforce a sit-at-home going forward would be acting contrary to Kanu’s explicit instructions and the broader objectives of the Biafran struggle.

“The era of Monday sit-at-home is over,” the statement declared, adding that all economic and social activities must proceed as normal.

IPOB also cautioned against intimidation or coercion of traders and business owners, insisting that no state governor or authority has the right to forcibly shut down businesses under the guise of compliance. While citizens were encouraged to remain peaceful, vigilant, and law-abiding, the group emphasized that any market renovations or relocations must involve consultations with stakeholders and the provision of alternative trading locations before implementation.

Ejimakor Slams Calls for Peter Obi to Drop 2027 Presidential Bid

In a related political development, Aloy Ejimakor, legal adviser to Nnamdi Kanu, has strongly criticised suggestions that former Anambra State governor and African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain, Peter Obi, should abandon plans to contest the 2027 presidential election.

Reacting via a statement shared on his 𝕏 account, Ejimakor described such calls as “cowardly and duplicitous,” arguing that fears over alleged control of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies by President Bola Tinubu should not be used to discourage opposition participation.

According to him, Nigeria’s political history does not support the idea that incumbency automatically translates into electoral victory. He maintained that portraying the 2027 contest as unwinnable for opposition candidates is misleading and ignores past electoral upsets.

Ejimakor insisted that democratic participation should not be surrendered based on assumptions, urging political actors to challenge the status quo rather than retreat from it.
