INEC Reports 2.68 Million Newly Registered Voters

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released its latest nationwide update on the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, revealing that a total of 2,685,725 new voters have been registered across the country.

The report, published on Monday, shows the combined figures from both online pre-registration and physical registration at INEC state offices and designated centers. According to the Commission, the CVR numbers reflect growing public interest in the electoral process and increased participation ahead of upcoming elections.

INEC noted that the registration figures include first-time voters, youths aged 18–34, and Nigerians who updated their voter information due to relocation or loss of their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs). The Commission also emphasized that the process continues to be guided by transparency, technology-driven verification, and strict adherence to the Electoral Act.

The update further highlighted improvements in biometric capturing, security measures at registration centers, and efforts to reduce congestion in high-population states. INEC reiterated its commitment to ensuring that all eligible Nigerians have the opportunity to register and collect their PVCs before election timelines close.

The Commission is expected to release a breakdown of state-by-state registration details in a subsequent update.
