The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has formally handed over certificates of return to candidates who emerged victorious in the February 21, 2026 Area Council elections held across the Federal Capital Territory.

The presentation ceremony, conducted by the FCT Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mallam Aminu Idris, marked the official confirmation of the newly elected chairmen, their deputies, and councillors.
Among those honoured at the event were the re-elected Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Christopher Maikalangu, alongside his deputy, Mohammed Nadabo.
In total, six area council chairmen and their vice chairmen received certificates, in addition to 62 councillors who secured seats in their respective wards across the FCT.
Addressing the gathering, Idris described the occasion as the final step in what he characterised as a credible and transparent electoral process.
He urged the elected officials to regard their victory as both a privilege and a responsibility to serve the people diligently.
According to him, the mandate given by voters reflects public confidence and should inspire purposeful leadership focused on addressing the needs and concerns of residents.
