President Bola Tinubu has called on Nigerians to extend forgiveness for any wrongs he may have committed, highlighting the importance of unity, peace, and moral reflection as Muslims begin Ramadan.

‘If I Have Sinned Against You, Forgive Me’ – Tinubu Begs Nigerians

Speaking at a Ramadan Tafsir held at the State House Mosque in Abuja on Wednesday, Tinubu emphasised that the holy month provides an opportunity for spiritual renewal and a recommitment to values that strengthen society.

He urged citizens to embrace compassion, forgiveness, and acts of kindness as a means of fostering national harmony.

“Ramadan reminds us to get closer to God, to do good to people, to share love and faith, and to forgive sins,” Tinubu said. “If I have sinned against you, forgive me. As Nigerians, we must learn to forgive and live in peace with one another.”

The President’s Message

The President’s message focused on encouraging citizens to set aside differences, build bridges of understanding, and work collectively for the country’s development.

He stressed that observing the month of fasting should inspire unity and social goodwill across all communities.

In a related political reflection, Akin Osuntokun, the former Director-General of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council, spoke about the historical roots of the political rift between Nasir El-Rufai and Nuhu Ribadu.

Osuntokun told ARISE News that tensions between the two politicians were exacerbated by Tinubu’s decision to back Ribadu over El-Rufai ahead of the 2011 presidential election.

He explained that the rivalry dates back to the later years of the Olusegun Obasanjo administration, during a period when political alliances were being reshaped.

However, according to Osuntokun, the divide became more pronounced when Tinubu, having completed his tenure as Lagos State governor, sought a younger northern candidate to support for the presidency.
