Nigerian music star Ahmed Ololade, widely known as Asake, has opened up about a difficult period in his relationship with his father, Fatai Odunsi, revealing how tensions arose when he chose to pursue a career in music.
In a recent conversation with YouTuber Korty EO, the “Sungba” hitmaker shared that he and his father were once very close.
However, things changed when he made the decision to leave home and follow his passion—against his father’s wishes.
Reflecting on that time, Asake explained that his father strongly opposed his ambitions, insisting he stay back. Determined to chase his dreams, the singer ultimately left home despite the disapproval, a move that created distance between them.
The strained relationship later became a public topic in March 2025, when his father accused him of neglect.
The situation sparked widespread reactions online, but the pair eventually settled their differences.
Asake later stepped forward to take responsibility for his father’s well-being, marking a reconciliation between them.
Beyond family challenges, the singer also spoke about the hurdles he faced while trying to break into the music industry.
In an interview with Famous TV, he recalled how several show promoters turned him down early in his career, largely because he performed predominantly in Yoruba.
Despite the setbacks, Asake remained committed to his unique sound.
He credited his persistence and faith for his eventual success, expressing gratitude that he stayed true to his style instead of conforming to expectations.
