The Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, has stirred fresh hope among supporters of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu, by declaring that his release from detention will happen “very soon.”

Speaking at a public event, Governor Otti said discussions are ongoing at the highest levels to ensure Kanu’s freedom, noting that he has remained committed to pursuing peaceful dialogue on the matter. The governor’s remarks immediately triggered excitement and speculation, particularly across the Southeast, where Kanu commands significant grassroots support.
Nnamdi Kanu has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since his re-arrest in 2021, a development that has fueled agitation, protests, and security challenges across parts of the region.
While Otti did not provide a specific timeline, his assurance is being seen by many as the strongest signal yet that Kanu could soon walk free. The big question, however, remains: will his release calm tensions in the Southeast or spark a new wave of political and social debates nationwide?
