Gunmen Kill Councillor in Orumba South After Anambra Governorship Poll

Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has confirmed the tragic killing of a local government councillor by unknown gunmen in the aftermath of the recently concluded governorship election in the state.

The slain councillor, who represented the Owerre Ezukala community in Orumba South Local Government Area, was reportedly attacked and killed shortly after the polls.

Governor Soludo, while addressing journalists in Awka, condemned the killing and described it as a “senseless and cowardly act of violence”, stressing that the state government would not tolerate attacks on public officials or citizens.

He assured that security agencies have been directed to investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to restoring peace and stability across the state.

Residents of Orumba South have expressed shock and grief over the killing, calling on authorities to strengthen security in rural communities prone to attacks by armed groups.

This incident adds to growing concerns over post-election violence in parts of the South-East, where insecurity continues to threaten grassroots governance and local development.
