Group Gives Nigerian Govt, Police 48 Hours to Release Sowore, Detained #FreeNnamdiKanuNow Protesters

A civil rights group has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the Nigerian Government and the Nigeria Police Force, demanding the immediate release of activist Omoyele Sowore and several other protesters detained during the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow demonstration.

The group condemned what it described as an “unlawful arrest and clampdown on peaceful citizens exercising their constitutional right to protest.”

According to the statement released on Wednesday, the activists were apprehended during a peaceful march calling for the release of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, who remains in custody despite several court rulings ordering his release.

“The continued detention of Sowore and other protesters is a gross violation of human rights and democratic principles. The government has 48 hours to comply or face nationwide demonstrations,” the statement warned.

Human rights advocates and social media users have since joined the call, demanding transparency, justice, and respect for civil liberties.

As of press time, the police have not issued an official statement regarding the arrests.
