The Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike, has demolished two hotels in the state for allegedly violating lockdown directive.
The facilities, Prudent Hotel, Alode, Eleme and Etemeteh Hotel, Onne, were pulled down on Sunday with Wike said to have personally supervised the demolition.
The governor had imposed a lockdown and directed all hotels in the state to suspend services immediately as parts of measures to check the spread of coronavirus, warning residents that failure to comply with the order would attract stiff penalties.
The governor has been actively involved in the enforcement of the lockdown order and directed security operatives to transfer some arrested lockdown violators to isolation centres in the state.
The governor had also directed his attorney-general and commissioner for justice to auction vehicles that were impounded for violating the state’s lockdown directive.
He also ordered the seizure of some trucks which defied the lockdown directive by conveying livestock into the state.
He asked that the trucks and the cattle seized also be auctioned.
