Governor Otti Surprises Abia Permanent Secretaries with Brand-New Cars — Ends ‘Keke to Work’ Era

A wave of excitement swept through Abia State’s civil service as Governor Alex Otti gifted brand-new official vehicles to all Permanent Secretaries, signaling a new era of dignity and motivation for government workers.

For years, some senior civil servants were reportedly seen using tricycles (keke) to commute to their offices due to a lack of official vehicles — a situation that became a symbol of neglect in the state bureaucracy.

Governor Otti, while presenting the vehicles, emphasized that the gesture was part of his administration’s commitment to restoring respect, efficiency, and pride within the state’s public service.

“Our government believes that those entrusted with leadership responsibilities should be empowered to perform effectively. No more tricycles to work,” Otti declared.

The move has drawn massive praise from residents and civil servants alike, with many describing it as a long-overdue intervention that reflects Otti’s promise of “a new Abia.”

Photos of the brightly polished cars lined up at Government House Umuahia quickly went viral on social media, with citizens commending the governor’s attention to workers’ welfare.
