In a major welfare boost, Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has approved a substantial increase in the monthly allowance for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serving in the state — from ₦4,000 to ₦50,000.

The new allowance structure, which takes effect immediately, reflects the state government’s commitment to improving the welfare and motivation of corps members contributing to Abia’s development across various sectors.
Governor Otti emphasized that the decision was part of his administration’s broader vision to make Abia State a model of good governance and youth empowerment.
“Our corps members are an essential part of our state’s workforce, particularly in education, healthcare, and community service. This increase is a token of appreciation for their dedication and service,” Otti said.
The announcement has been widely praised by NYSC members and residents, who view it as a bold step toward supporting young Nigerians serving their nation under challenging economic conditions.
The increment positions Abia as one of the most corps member–friendly states in Nigeria, setting a new benchmark for youth engagement and welfare across the federation.
