Two students of the Government Girls College, Sokoto died following an outbreak of gastroenteritis, with 70 others Infected.
Sokoto state Commissioner for Science and Technology, Dr Kulu Haruna, made the announcement during a press conference in Sokoto revealed that the incident occurred from March 24, and the infected students were taken to the hospital and all treated.
She stated further that the school had been shut down and 20 students were presently at the isolation centre to prevent the spread of the disease.
“No teacher was affected. More medical and auxiliary health workers were deployed that promptly addressed the situation,” she revealed.
Haruna dismissed rumors that the gastroenteritis outbreak was as result of congestion due to the relocation of some students from closed schools because of banditry.
“The school does not have poor sanitary and water supply system. No borehole is unhealthy or has salted water.
”The situation was brought under control due to the quick intervention of the state government and all the infected students have been isolated to curtail the spread of the disease,” she said
