FG Reaffirms Commitment to Religious Tolerance After Trump’s Comment on Nigeria

The Federal Government of Nigeria has restated its commitment to religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence among citizens, following comments by U.S. President Donald Trump designating Nigeria as a “country of concern” over alleged Christian persecution.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Ministry of Information and National Orientation described Nigeria as a multi-religious nation where freedom of worship is protected by the Constitution.

“Nigeria remains committed to upholding the rights of all faiths. Isolated incidents of violence should not be mistaken for government policy or systemic persecution,” the statement read.

The government emphasized ongoing efforts to foster dialogue between religious and community leaders to prevent extremism and promote national unity.

Officials also reaffirmed that Nigeria will continue to collaborate with international partners to combat insecurity and ensure justice for victims of religious or communal conflicts.
