Federal Lawmakers Urge President Tinubu to Release Nnamdi Kanu

Forty-four federal lawmakers have written to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, demanding the immediate release of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

In the letter, the legislators expressed concern over what they described as prolonged detention without fair trial, warning that Kanu’s continued imprisonment could further fuel political tension and unrest in the Southeast region.

They also argued that releasing him would help create a window for dialogue, national healing, and resolution of outstanding political grievances.

The group of lawmakers urged the government to fast-track Kanu’s trial, avoid repeated adjournments, and consider alternative dispute resolution mechanisms. They called on Tinubu to confront the issue “with statesmanship and courage.”
