ECOWAS Deploys Standby Force to Benin

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has deployed a standby force to Benin Republic as political tension deepens in the country. The move follows heightened instability and reports of rising unrest, prompting the regional bloc to take swift action aimed at preventing a full-scale crisis.

According to ECOWAS officials, the deployment is part of a broader strategy to maintain peace, stabilize institutions, and prevent a possible breakdown of constitutional order. The standby force will work closely with Beninese authorities to monitor the situation and ensure that democratic processes are protected.

This development comes amid growing fears of political turmoil, with regional leaders calling for restraint, dialogue, and respect for constitutional governance.

ECOWAS reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding peace in West Africa, warning that it will not tolerate actions that threaten regional stability.
