The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Mahmood Yakubu has been advised to resign.
The Social Democratic Party Presidential Candiadte, Donald Duke gave the advice following the postponement of Nigeria’s general election by INEC.
The Presidential and the National Assembly’s elections billed for February 16 was shifted to February 23 while the Governorship and the State House of Assembly’s elections billed for March 3 was shifted to March 9.
In a chat with Journalists in Calabar, the Cross River State capital, Duke said the development was a national embarrassment and lots of money wasted.
The former Governor of Cross River State said Nigerians have come from all over the world to observe, monitor as well as participate in their civic responsibilities.
“But all of a sudden, our so called Independent National Electoral Commission postponed the elections”.
“This is totally unheard of, because they didnt postpone it a week before but four hours to its commencement”.
“Now if you are a participant in this election, and you have your agents, spread throughout the country whom you have empowered financially, then this happens? Meaning all that money is wasted and you gonna start all over again”
“Its a trick that is well scripted and taken to the next level” he said.
This trick according to him, is to bleed the opposition financially.
I have been in government and I’m not naive, this is not your initiative, this is a script given you to play.
“PDP started all this nonsense, but theirs was postponed in a few days before the elections but APC just a few hours, literally taking it to the ‘Next Level’.
“We all know that the government in power has unlimited access to finance but the opposition does not”
“Now the opposition has less than one week to raise funds and here we are talking of billions”.
“Basically, this is designed to financially wear out the opposition he lamented.
