Diplomatic Earthquake? UK, Australia and Canada Back Palestinian Statehood

In a major diplomatic development, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada have formally recognised the State of Palestine, joining a growing list of countries supporting Palestinian statehood.

The coordinated announcements were made on Friday, with leaders from the three nations stressing that recognition was aimed at advancing peace and reinforcing the push for a two-state solution in the Middle East.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau each underscored the importance of giving Palestinians a political horizon while urging Israel to return to negotiations.

The move has been welcomed by Palestinian authorities but has drawn criticism from Israel, which argues that such recognition undermines direct peace talks.
