Customs Orders Mandatory Drug Tests

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced a new mandatory drug-testing policy for both newly recruited personnel and serving officers, as part of efforts to strengthen discipline and enhance the integrity of the service.

According to the directive, all officers—regardless of rank—will now undergo periodic drug screening, while prospective recruits must pass compulsory drug tests before being considered for employment.

The NCS says the measure is aimed at promoting professionalism, eliminating substance abuse within the service, and ensuring that officers entrusted with national security and revenue duties are mentally and physically fit.

The new policy is part of broader reforms targeted at improving accountability, combating corruption, and boosting public trust in the Nigeria Customs Service.
