Imo state indigenes and some Nigerians have taken to social media to show their disapproval over the statue of South Africa President Jacob Zuma erected In Imo State.
The Governor Rochas Okorocha on Saturday unveiled the giant statue of South Africa president, named a road after him and also conferred on the President Zuma, the Imo Merit Award, the highest award in the State conferred on distinguished personalities who have made a difference in the development of their communities and to humanity.
These actions has been highly criticised in the social media.
Some Nigerians believed its a misplaced priority where salaries are been owned thousands of workers, pensioners coupled with bad roads.
According to reports, the statue which cost Imo state government N520m to erect should have been used in fixing some of the problems faced by the indegenes.
Governor Rochas Okorocha and President Jacob Zuma also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that will provide free education for poor children in Africa.
Even South Africans reacted to the erected statue of President Jacob Zuma by Imo State governor, Rochas Owelle Okorocha.
They took to their social media to lash out their anger on the governor for honouring a man who is facing over 700 cases of corruption charges in his home country.
Most of them insinuated that Nigerians wanted a free pass to import drugs and illegal people into their country, hence the statue.
